What if we could change our diet and quadruple our risk of cancer and heart disease, would we do it? Of course not. What if it was tasty and was the diet we are accustomed to eating? What then?
The following video review highlights 100s of recent, peer-reviewed, evidence-based, scientific, nutrition research studies showing exactly how diet choices can, for example, either reverse heart disease or quadruple our risk of cancer and heart disease, as well as numerous other diseases.
This video review is easy to watch, even fun, and most definitely memorable. It’s also the basis of the NY Times Best-Seller, “How Not To Die.” What we’ve learned about nutrition in the last few years is astounding, check it out.

Doctor Greger’s Note
Every year I scour the world’s scholarly literature on clinical nutrition, pulling together what I find to be the most interesting, practical, and groundbreaking science on how to best feed ourselves and our families. I start with the 12,000 or so papers published annually on human nutrition and, thanks to a crack team of volunteers (and now staff!), I’m able to whittle those down to about 3,000 studies, which are downloaded, categorized, read, analyzed, and churned into a few hundred short videos. This allows me to post new videos and articles every day, year-round, to NutritionFacts.org. This certainly makes the site unique. There’s no other science-based source for free daily updates on the latest discoveries in nutrition. The problem is that the amount of information can be overwhelming.
Currently I have videos covering 1,814 nutrition topics. Where do you even begin? Many have expressed their appreciation for the breadth of material, but asked that I try to distill it into a coherent summary of how best to use diet to prevent and treat chronic disease. I took this feedback to heart and in 2012 developed Uprooting the Leading Causes of Death, which explored the role diet may play in preventing, arresting, and even reversing our top 15 killers. Not only did it rise to become one of the Top 10 Most Popular Videos of 2012, it remains my single most viewed video to date, watched over a million times (NutritionFacts.org is now up to more than a million hits a month!).
In 2013 I developed the sequel, More Than an Apple a Day: Combating Common Diseases, in which I explored the role diet could play in treating some of our most common conditions. I’ve been presenting it around the country over the past year and it ended up #1 on our Top 10 Most Popular Videos of 2013.

Ok, but where do I start?
Green Smoothies Work–lose weight, get healthy
Adding a green smoothie to your daily routine is a great place to start on the path to weight loss and better health.
The cool thing about green smoothies is that you don’t have to “give up” anything in your diet. If you just drink a 16 oz green smoothie every day you’ll notice, after a month or so, that, without even trying, you’ll simply eat less of everything else–and start losing weight and feeling healthier. Why? Green smoothies are soooooo nutrient dense that your body simply doesn’t crave as much other foods.
Curious? Here’s the best green smoothie youtube video:

Here’s the mom’s version of the green smoothie story (56 min) if you prefer:
Green smoothies helped me to lose 40 lbs and get healthier. Here’s how:
- Drink a daily 16 oz green smoothie (about 50% banana/frozen fruits, 50% greens/veggies, plus some water/juice–toss it all into a blender and then pour and drink).
- Eat sensibly but as much as you want. (No great “will power” is required–but eat mostly “real” foods–avoid highly processed and highly advertised foods/sodas, also avoid sugars/additives/GMOs.)
- Don’t eat after 7:30 pm (surprisingly effective for weight loss).

All this boils down to is whether people give a s**t about their own health or not… The proof, research, and resources are all here at the touch of our fingertips. There is no argument against the plant based diet. It’s painfully obvious that it’s the healthiest for mankind.
There are so many unhappy and emotionally stressed people in this world that only eat comfort foods all the time. They say they would rather die smiling while eating their favorite foods then die sad while eating foods they don’t normally like. The world consist of the ignorant masses led by arrogant leaders. Thank you Dr. Greger.
There’s this attitude that many have-that the day they die is set I stone and nothing they do can change it. I’m gonna die, young or old, so what difference does it make? Wtf is wrong with these people, this is basically suicide.
From an STO perspective one can only give when asked and many people choose not to wake up, they choose not to seek truth or do conscious self-work. . . . [But] free will needs to be respected, even if it is the free will to stay ignorant. (Source)
