Lots of bold claims without any rational or justification. It’s this sort of irrational and baseless fear that is painfully counter-productive.
A nuclear bomb having fallout all the way to northern Alabama? We’re realistically talking about a 10-20 ton device here. Just because this woman saw a giant mushroom cloud on tv when she was 3 years old doesn’t mean that’s how this would work.
This 10-20 ton device would be greater than 5000 feet below an incompressible material (water) plus some depth of sediment and rock. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that any fallout would occur as the likelihood of debris making it up to the atmosphere would be near zero. That. Would. Defeat. The. POINT.
I’m not saying a nuclear bomb attempt is a wise move. I don’t know, but there are people out there that study this stuff and I’m willing to let them try and figure out what’s the best solution. Proper solutions to complex problems aren’t always the ones that make “common” sense or make us feel all warm and fuzzy.
Implosion creates a volcanic eruption? 20-80 foot wall? Huh? Where is she getting this from? I think a water+oil tsunami is entirely possible, maybe even probable, but she’s fear mongering in the worst way. She’s saying we’re going to have a giant catastrophe no matter what happens.
There’s a cartoon character with the same attitude: Chicken Little. I think we could do with a lot less Chicken Little and a lot more Isaac Newton.
